In these 3 hour workshops there is more time for drawing - while still having meditation as its core. The theme this week will reflect my current exploration of the role of memory and place in drawing. We will work with meditation to explore the dreamlike space of the mind as you remember, and respond, to an ordinary every day part of your life or something more distant, more fleeting. You might choose a regular walk, a familiar room in the house, or any part of your daily routine - something you do, some place you inhabit, every day - or it could be somewhere you visited just once that left a lasting impression, or a memory from childhood. Starting with recent memories, you might find connections with more distant memories, letting the past merge with the present through the process of drawing.
We will do practical warm ups followed by meditation and visualisation exercises to tap into the sensory aspects of memory, drawing with the eyes closed. It's often surprising what you can remember, and even what you can't remember becomes part of the process of drawing. There will be time to work on these drawings during the session, with additional exercises to keep the drawings fresh and exciting.
These extended sessions give you the opportunity to really focus on the subject in hand for a sustained period, with more time for the drawings to grow. With each session guided by the usual meditations, the space is truly held for you by me. These workshops are intended to offer you a retreat style experience at home, where you are invited to switch off all distractions and put a “Do Not Disturb” sign on your door. This is valuable time for you and your creative self.
