Roaming Residencies

The Roaming Residency commissions have come out of my own practice of drawing and painting the places I live in and visit. From here has grown a desire to share my love of interiors beyond the gallery space, and into the homes of people I know, or people I have yet to know.

Imagine seeing your home afresh, through the eyes of an artist. How would I see, and feel, the space you love and live in?

If you would like your own bespoke work about your home, I can come and be your very own artist in residence, for anything from 2 days to 2 weeks, or even months. During this time, I will visit your house on a regular basis, and create a unique series of drawings and paintings about my experience there, which are yours to keep. Price on application.

Barton Manor, 2020

Katie spent time understanding our home, our gardens and our lifestyle. We think she captured the essence of our home in her pictures...

I found it enlightening to see an artist at work! So different to the world I have occupied for so long. Your paintings are heart warming and capture the essence of Barton very well.

MONCRIEFF BRAY, 2020

In August 2020, following on from my first exhibition with Moncrieff Bray gallery, I was invited to make new work in situ by the owner Elspeth Bray. I was particularly struck by the poplar tree standing tall in the centre of the homestead, between the barn gallery and the house. Apparently they were traditionally planted so that farmers could navigate their way home across the fields. Symbolising courage, independence and success, it seemed like a good subject to work with. Whenever I am working in a new place, I like to immerse myself in the space, noticing what I notice, writing down thoughts, memories and associations, so that the drawings and paintings I make are real reflections of my connection with the place, as well as the history and stories already present.

 DANNY HOUSE, 2012

I first came across Katie’s work displayed at Seawhite of Brighton. I commissioned Katie to portray at Danny House various rooms including the Elizabethan Great Hall and my children’s bedroom. Katie stayed in residence for several months and inspired me, my family and many of the residents at Danny House with her unique work. Three of her paintings now adorn our family kitchen walls and help bring a freshness, colour and vibrancy to our life. Katie was a delight to have in our midst and she has become a friend and regular visitor.
