MAKING ROOM

A charitable exhibition of Drawings and Paintings

by Katie Sollohub

“My father was a refugee. My great aunt lived barefoot in shepherd huts in the mountains of Northern Italy, selling her watercolour landscapes for a dollar a piece to post war tourists. I was born into a house of memories and keepsakes, the ballast gathered around my father in place of a home he lost as a boy. Aunt Bully’s paintings filled our walls. Over the years I have collected things, drawn them, held them in my hand, written stories about them, and painted. Around the objects grew a series of projects about rooms, in my own home, in friends’ homes, and in historic houses. This has been my work for a long time, and it is time I let them go….

My hope for this exhibition is that by selling my work I might help others to find their place, get the support they need, find shelter, and acceptance. A place where everyone is welcome.” KS July 2023

There will be framed work, both drawings and paintings, made over the last 10 years, as well as a table of unframed work on paper for rummaging, offers welcome.
